Site Wheel
When one can be found, a map in WIZARDscape is always oriented to the Axis and it's called a "wheel". This is the site wheel of WIZARDscape and the wakeling knowledge base.
WIZARDscape
A roleplaying game metacampaign setting
WIZARDscape is the top-level site. Other than this site wheel and a few other administrative links, there probably won't be much there of interest to dream wheel holders. Its main purpose is to be a portal for incoming wakelings.
Three components of the wakeling knowledge base
The diverse nature of the wakeling knowledge base necessitates different viewing and publishing rights to different information. For example, any one can view my notes from the last game session, but only wakelings can view player handouts. What's more, wakelings can publish their own articles, but their access is limited to certain categories.
In order to accomodate these needs, the wakeling knowledge base is divided into three component websites: The Paradigm, Game Table, and The Wakeling's Pocket Guide to WIZARDscape.
Each of the component sites are described below. Each site is comprised of a number of categories. These categories are also described.
Awakening
To gain a circumstance bonus on your Navigate check as you browse the wakeling knowledge base, see also Awakening, a minimalist design for the wakeling knowledge base.
Clicking on a link will take you to the front page of the site or to the category within the site. Not all of the categories have articles yet. I'll add the links as the categories are populated.
The Paradigm
The official source of all news and information from WIZARDscape
(Public, Authored by me)
The Paradigm is your primary source of news from WIZARDscape. In addition to upcoming games, I'll keep you informed of any other activity elsewhere in the wakeling knowledge base.
Base Sanity
You all tell me if I'm blowing your minds yet. Me I've been having to make a Sanity check every other day for as long as I can remember. I upped the dosage on my lithium, but it isn't helping.
When I fail a Sanity check, I write stuff down and I post it here. Use caution.
Campaigns
The campaign is a staple of roleplaying games. An adventure may last one or a few game sessions, and a series of linked adventures comprises a campaign. In WIZARDscape, "campaign" has a somewhat different meaning.
A campaign in WIZARDscape is loosely defined by a question and the answer to the question. At the beginning of a campaign, the Dream Master poses the question. The campaign ends when the question is answered.
A campaign may be short, lasting only a single episode. Or it may be long, spanning many episodes, serials, and venues.
The wakeling who answers the question earns 4 experience awards that can be applied to any avatar immediately. Then, the game continues!
Articles in this category pose the question for the current campaign. Post a comment to solve the campaign!
Dreamgate
Lay in the coordinates for the next opening of the dreamgate!
A few days before each game session, I post some brief information about the upcoming session. I usually take advantage of the oportunity to sneak in a clue or two.
Dream Log
A brief summary of the game session, notes, and experience awards
Within a few days after a game session, I post my session notes. I present an abstract of the session, XP awards, and any important notes, including changes to the game schedule. If you read nothing else, read this category!
Figments
Sometimes I get fairly lucid visions of what WIZARDscape is really like. Otherwise, I'm a stranger here myself.
Bits, pieces, and occasionally a short story, these articles are inspired by the turn of the wheel.
Hand in My Pocket
Reviews of posts and contributions from the Pocket Guide
I'll bring attention to wakeling contributions in an occasional article in this category.
Meridian Herald
Noted for its flexible journalistic standards, loose treatment of the truth, complete lack of verifiable information, and sometimes outright disinformation, the Meridian Herald is widely read by adventurers throughout dream for rumors and hearsay, news of their fellow adventurers and their competition in the field, and for the occasional adventure hook. The periodical is also highly regarded among the aristocracy for its entertainment value and gossip content.
Personal ads typically comprise one-third of a weekly issue. All manner of goods and services are bought, sold, traded, given away, or stolen within its pages. Commercial advertisements rarely appear, though those that do appear are generally bizarre, offensive, or at least incomprehensible to all but the target consumer, which is usually narrow in scope.
Articles in this category generally make reference to events in game.
Postcards from the Edge
"Danger! Do not pass beyond this point." That's what the sign says at the Edge.
Why is it dangerous to go beyond this point? Because there's nothing out there, nothing but darkness and dry sand. It is a desert on the shore of nothingness that surrounds the wheel. Some say it is part of the wheel itself, a border without a barrier. Some say it's the border and the barrier. Many are uncertain that it exists at all. They believe it is, rather, a place of non-existence, where no one in their right mind dares to go, and whence no one in their right mind ever returns.
In his chaotically regular column, Postcards from the Edge, chief interdream correspondent, Cosmo Wherefore, shows us what it says on the other side of the sign.
...What else can I add to that?
Serials
A thread of a common theme, a serial is a not-necessarily-contiguous series of episodes.
Venues
A venue is defined by a set of rules and a game play interface.
Wakeling Knowledge Check
The wakeling knowledge base update
Any modifications, additions, subtractions, and distractions concerning the wakeling knowledge base.
The Wakeling's Pocket Guide to WIZARDscape
The common repository of wakeling knowledge
(Public, Authored by all wakelings)
Content on the Wakeling's Pocket Guide to WIZARDscape is contributed by you, the wakeling. Record what you know in the Pocket Guide or the knowledge will be lost like your last breath.
For more information about the Pocket Guide, see About the Pocket Guide.
To post an article on the Pocket Guide, wakelings must be a guest author on the weblog and login to TypePad. If you are not yet a guest author on the Pocket Guide, send me an email with your request and the email address with which you'd like to use.
Wakeling initiates should check out the category A Guide to the Pocket Guide for pointers on how to post articles.
I can create other categories as necessary. Just let me know if you have a contribution that doesn't fit in one of the existing categories.
